Welcome to our Blog

Thank you for visiting! We have put forth much effort into making this possible. In October of 2010 we began to bike to many different parks and park districts. Our blog functions to promote people's interest in Chicagoland Area Park Districts. We have already biked to 500+ parks and taken pictures of each. We hope you will use this for reference when you visit Chicagoland or rediscover your own neighborhood! The right side of the page contains links to parks we have already biked to while the blog portion contains recent trips and updates. Keep on reading, and please come back often to see our progress!

Niles Parks

Niles Village Background
Niles is located on the Northeast corner of Chicago, just east of Park Ridge.  It was first known as Dutchmann's Point due to the large amount of German settlers.  The name was later changed to Lyttleton's Point.  The name Niles was chosen by the early 1850 community leaders, when Niles Township was organized.  The name came from the "Niles Register", with was a weekly paper of commercial and political news that was founded in Baltimore by Hezekiah Niles in 1811.  In the 1830s, Postal service between Niles, Illinois and Niles, Michigan developed.  Regular stagecoach service began between the two in 1834.  Niles was officially changed to Niles on May 23, 1850.
