Welcome to our Blog

Thank you for visiting! We have put forth much effort into making this possible. In October of 2010 we began to bike to many different parks and park districts. Our blog functions to promote people's interest in Chicagoland Area Park Districts. We have already biked to 500+ parks and taken pictures of each. We hope you will use this for reference when you visit Chicagoland or rediscover your own neighborhood! The right side of the page contains links to parks we have already biked to while the blog portion contains recent trips and updates. Keep on reading, and please come back often to see our progress!

Lincolnwood Parks

Lincolnwood Village Background

The village of Lincolnwood began as the village of Tessville in the year of 1911. This name originally because of the main settler of the village Johan Tess. The town was then renamed to Lincolnwood in 1936 because of the main road that runs through the area Lincoln Ave.

The Parks

G G Rowell Park- Sauganash and LeMai Avenue (Approx. 6550 North LeMai Avenue)
On a map, G G Rowell Park seems very small.  But it is not, its actually quite large.  There is a field that will work for playing catch or having a picnic.  The other half of the park encompasses a larger than normal playground and condensed basketball court.
Amenities-Playground, half basketball court, small field.

Arthur M. Goebelt Park- Kilbourn and Albion Avenue (Approx. 6617 North Kilbourn Avenue)
This park is smashed up against some trees that conceal high rising electric wires.  But the park itself isn't that bad.  A playground is the main attraction, and the path that leads to there passes by a basketball court.
Amenities-Playground, half basketball court.

M. Lester Flowers Park-Morse and Kolmar Avenue (Approx. 4530 West Pratt Avenue)
Along the same electric wires as Goebelt Park, Lester Flowers Park offers about the same features.  However, Flowers Park is also slightly larger.  It adds 2 full tennis courts to the already awesome duo of a basketball court and baseball field.
Amenities-Playground, half basktball. two tennis courts, baseball field.

Henry A. Proesel Park- Kostner, Morse, and Lincoln Avenues (Approx. 6915 Kostner Avenue)
In the center of town, Proesel Park offers many amenities.  It is named after Henry Proesel, who was an early pioneer of the area with Johann Tess.  The park houses the village's only Park District pool, as well as a large variety of ball fields.  There is a nicely proportioned playground on the south end, as well as an in-line skating rink.  The Proesel Park Community Center has rental spaces for any type of event.  Please call their number to schedule a room rental: 1-847-677-9740.  Their website has rental hours and fees, as well as amenities to rent: http://www.lincolnwoodil.org/CommunityCenterRental.cfm.  All in all, Proesel Park houses the village's only and best pool, rental rooms, and other typical and convenient amenities.
Amenities-Swimming pool, baseball/softball fields. two basketball courts, three tennis courts (lighted), two volleyball courts, playground for children, teen play area, in-line skating rink, outdoor ice rink, pergola sitting area, picnic areas.

Henry A. Proesel Park Pavillion-6915 Kostner Avenue
The Park Pavilion is what we are referring to above when we mentioned picnic areas.  It is primarily used for the Park District, and less pften for the residents and businesses of Lincolnwood.  It is actually considered a shelter.  The website deals with requirements and fees: http://www.lincolnwoodil.org/RecreationNeighborhoodParks.cfm.  You can also call their number for more information: 1-847-677-9740.
Amenities-Shelter, permits issued.

Proesel Park Family Aquatic Center-7055 North Kostner Avenue (1-847-673-6870)
The Aquatic Center is for everyone, not just for families.  I should be too, since it is the only Park District pool.  Unfortunately, it is only available by membership or acquaintances.  That means you either have to live in Lincolnwood, or know someone in Lincolnwood to go to this pool. That's too bad, because it really is a good pool.  When you enter, you are greeted by a zero-depth entry pool in the center, with the lap lanes to the right and a wading pool for those 7 and younger to the left.  At the end of the main pool, there are two water slides.  Please visit their website for more information: http://www.lincolnwoodil.org/RecreationProeselParkFamilyAquaticCenter.cfm.
Amenities-Zero-depth entry pool, wading pool (with slide), two water slides, water spray toys, L-shaped lap lane, concession stands, locker rooms, party rooms (for rent).

Kenneth Park-Chase and Kenneth Avenue (Approx. 4401 West Chase Avenue)
Since it is one of th neighborhood parks, Kenneth Park strives to offer something different than its neighbors.  It has paths to the amenities in the back, and even a small field out front.
Amenities-Playground, half basketball court.

Kildare Park-Kildare Avenue (Just south of Chase Avenue)
Kildare park doesn't depart from park styles used by the likes of Kenneth Park, but it does depart in size.  This park is small.  But, they still fit in a nice playground, as well as some concrete to park strollers.
Amenities-Playground, half basketball court.

Charles L. O'Brien Park-East Prairie and Chase Avenue (Approx. 7268 Northeast Prairie Road)
Since this is one of the neighborhood parks, it is also slightly larger.  Still, the only notable feature here is the playground, with a smart layout.
Amenities-Playground, half basketball court.

Richard R. Rossi Park-Keystone Avenue (Just North of Lunt Avenue, Approx. 7009 Keystone Avenue)
Back to the mini parks, Rossi Park still has a playground.  And that's the nice thing about the Lincolnwood Park, because almost all of them have a playground.  And of course, it also has that half basketball court.
Amenities-Playground, half basketball court.

Columbia Park-Columbia and Hamlin Avenue (Approx. 6701 Hamlin Avenue)
There is a smaller playground at Columbia, as well as a half basketball court.  The location is on the eastern side of Lincolnwood, which makes it great for a picnic if you're picking up food from the Lincolnwood Towne Center mall.
Amenities-Playground, half basketball court.

Drake Park-Pratt and Drake Avenue (Approx. 3537 West Pratt Avenue)
This park is even closer than Columbia Park to the east side of Lincolnwood.  There is a playground plus basketball court, but also a field the size of the playground.
Amenities-Playground, two half basketball courts, small field.

Lincolnwood Centennial Park (Formally Channel Runne Park) - On McCormick Avenue between Touhy and Devon Avenue (Approx. 6801 North McCormick Boulevard)
This is a one mile long along the North branch of the Chicago River.  It is an extension of the Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park.  There are many intriguing scultptures that attract various thoughts.  Also, a paved walkway runs along the park's entirety.
Amenities-Walking path, sculptures, dogs allowed (on leash).

Central Park-Central Park and Arthur Avenue (Approx. 6499 Central Park Avenue)
Near Lincoln and Devon Avenue, Central Park is the second to last park and packs in more than usual.  There is not only a playground and half basketball court, but also two tennis courts.  That makes this park a little more interesting.  Plus, it is near some restaurants and ice cream shops on Lincoln Avenue.
Amenities-Playground, half basketball court, two tennis courts.

Springfield Park-Springfield and Proesel Avenue (Approx. 6498 West Proesel Avenue)
The last of the Lincolnwood Parks, Springfield reminds you of the typical park here.  Of course it has a playground, I can't believe you would doubt it!  THere is also a (surprise) half basketball court.  There is also a decent amount of benches along walking paths.
Amenities-Playground, half basketball court, bemches, walking paths.

Thank you fo taking the time to appreciate the park possibilities in Lincolnwood.  We hope that you will strive to enjoy these parks, and all of nature's beauty in Lincolnwood.  Don't forget to keep checking back as we are always adding new cities to our blog.  If you need to ask a question or have a comment, please shoot us an e-mail at biketheparks@gmail.com.
